Highlights of Uncharted: Berkeley Festival of Ideas 2013

Over two days, participants at Uncharted: The Berkeley Festival of Ideas heard from three dozen speakers in 25 different conversations, took part in four Uncharted Lab workshops, enjoyed a jazz trio and a theremin during coffee breaks, and danced (well, some of them) to Cuban salsa at the party.

The idea behind Uncharted was to bring together a diverse group of thinkers in many different domains, with an engaged, active group of participants. What emerged, in a largely unplanned way, were deep connections between ideas — on income inequality, on the ways in which technology is changing our lives and work, on methods to tackle complex, ambiguous problems, on the centrality of politics to so many critical issues.

The inaugural Uncharted was an ambitious leap for Berkeleyside, following the path of many other media organizations producing events. The date for the 2014 Uncharted will be announced in January. If you want to get first notice of Uncharted news, join the Uncharted mailing list.
