Could Uncharted festival become the SXSW of Berkeley?

by Tracey Taylor

Uncharted the new SXSW of Berkeley? That’s what PandoDaily suggests in an article published on Oct. 21.

Describing Uncharted as “the new tech anti-conference,” writer Carmel DeAmicis says Uncharted: The Berkeley Festival of Ideas, in the manner of the mega music and tech South By South West festival could start small and “eventually [become] a definitive place for exchanging ideas and raising the Berkeley profile the way SXSW did for Austin.”

“It’s fitting for Berkeley to host a tech anti-conference,” DeAmicis continues. “Despite the university’s dizzying array of Nobel prize winners and brilliant researchers, the city has stayed outside the Silicon Valley purview. Not nearly as many startups come from Berkeley, despite recent forays into incubators and entrepreneurship centers.”
