    Uncharted: The Berkeley Festival of Ideas Returns in Year Four with an Eclectic, Inclusive Lineup  

    Eve Ensler, Michael Krasny, Kenji López-Alt, Jay Rosen, Mark Bittman to Appear


    Berkeley, California, Sept. 2016Uncharted: The Berkeley Festival of Ideas, two days of on-stage conversations interspersed with musical and dance performances and hands-on workshops, food and drink returns to Berkeley for its fourth year October 14 and 15, 9am to 5pm, at The Berkeley Repertory Theatre and the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse in downtown Berkeley.

    Uncharted: The Berkeley Festival of Ideas (#BerkeleyIdeas) is the Bay Area’s first ideas festival and a production of Berkeleyside, Berkeley’s award-winning independent news site.

    In keeping with the festival’s mission to provide a dynamic exchange of ideas between prominent thinkers and festival-goers, the program this year will feature discussions about technology, science, culture, politics, education, food, business, economics, and the environment.

    “We can never predict what happens when an inclusive group of people gather to debate and discuss the key issues of our time, and that’s why curating this festival is something we look forward to each year,” said Lance Knobel, Co-Founder of Berkeleyside and Program Curator of the Uncharted Festival.

    Some of the 2016 festival highlights include: Eve Ensler, the Tony Award winning playwright, activist and performer and author of The Vagina Monologues; Bestselling author and food writer Mark Bittman; Kenji Lopez-Alt hosting a lab called “The Steak Myth,” KQED Forum’s Michael Krasny; musician Jessie BridgesAaron James, Professor of Philosophy, UC Irvine, and the author of the book, Assholes: A Theory of Donald Trump; Zahra Noorbakhsh, feminist Muslim Iranian-American comedian, writer, and cohost of the #GoodMuslimBadMuslim podcast; Jay Rosen, the NYU journalism professor and media critic Kevin Powell, the acclaimed political, cultural, literary and hip-hop writer and activist; and Scott Budnick, founder of the Anti-Recidivism Coalition, and the producer of The Hangover movies.
