Communicator and commentator on health
Lisa Aliferis is Senior Communications Officer of the California Health Care Foundation. She was previously Editor of State of Health, the health blog at KQED News. She has closely covered the debate around vaccine exemptions in California, variation in health care costs and quality, and the implementation of Covered California, the state’s Affordable Care Act marketplace. She developed and wrote KQED’s popular consumer guide to the health law, “Obamacare Explained.”
For the first 20 years of her career, Aliferis worked in television news, producing health reports in the Bay Area and nationally, including Dateline NBC. The Kaiser Family Foundation selected her for a year-long Media Fellowship in Health where she focused on end-of-life care. She also served as a Senior Editor for The California Endowment Health Journalism Fellowships.
